System C (Stratford, UK), a provider of digital solutions for health and social care, has announced a generative AI solution aimed at improving efficiency for professionals in these sectors. The technology is designed to use secure cloud-hosted large language models (LLMs) to create draft documentation, referrals, and tasks from audio recordings or notes taken during clinician-patient and social worker-citizen interactions.

Built on Microsoft’s Cloud Services

The solution integrates Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service, Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure SQL Database to operate within a secure and compliant cloud environment.

In healthcare settings, the AI assistant processes clinician notes and records, generating draft documentation for review and approval before integration into System C’s CareFlow Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system. This approach maintains a critical “human in the loop” process while reportedly reducing administrative time by over 60% per task. The saved time could allow clinicians to focus more on patient care and potentially increase patient capacity, with estimated cost savings exceeding £5 million annually per NHS trust.

For social care case management, the AI assistant is intended to convert audio recordings from client meetings into written notes. This process has the potential to save up to 45 minutes per full needs assessment, with larger authorities reportedly seeing non-cash savings of over £1 million annually.

Intended Benefits for Health and Social Care Professionals

Nick Wilson, CEO of System C, commented on the goals of the new technology:

"AI is an integral part of our vision for improving care delivery. This new offering will allow clinicians and social workers to spend less time on paperwork and more time focusing on providing high-quality care to people. By integrating Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service with CareFlow EPR and Liquidlogic social care case management platforms, we can streamline processes for our customers, reduce administrative burdens and empower health and social care professionals to concentrate on what truly matters."

Jacob West, Managing Director of Healthcare & Life Sciences at Microsoft, also shared insights:

"System C’s integration of Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service into their platform represents an advancement in their commitment to empowering health and social care workers to deliver high-quality care and enhance patient and citizen experiences. Their solution focuses on the issue of staff burnout through the responsible application of AI, with the objective of reducing the cost of care delivery for all"

Pilot Programs and Future Development

System C is currently collaborating with select local authorities and an NHS trust to pilot the technology. These programs aim to evaluate its effectiveness and efficiency before a broader market launch, which is planned for early next year.

The company has also announced plans to expand the AI assistant’s functionality to address additional clinical and operational tasks. These enhancements will reportedly be guided by user feedback and incorporated into System C’s annual roadmap cycle.
